Overly Critical

I shot an event at work yesterday and just now was feeling kind of guilty about the number of pictures that I was happy with–"only" thirty. So right now I am reminding myself of the days when shooting was done in batches of 24 or 36 and I felt lucky if there were 3 or 4 "keepers" per roll. Getting 30 decent photos of an event is enough. Why do I feel compelled to produce hundreds of photos every time I shoot, especially when all I really need is one or two really good ones? Guh.

[Gothic BC] Upcoming Province Article

This morning I had a little photoshoot, where I was the subject not the photographer, over by Holy Rosary Cathedral on Richards Street. It is for an upcoming article in The Province related to the "Gothic Migrations" 12th Biennial Conference of the International Gothic Association. The International Gothic Association is out of Lancaster University and devoted the academic study of the Gothic founded in, but extending well beyond, the Gothic sub-genre of 19th C. Romantic literature.

Anacortes, WA 1976

There were four rolls of film in my dad's old box of pictures that had never been developed. I took three of them in to London Drugs (the fourth will have to go to specialist photo lab since it's not standard C-41 process film). One came out completely blank. Two had pictures on them. This is the second one I scanned.

The images are from a swim-meet at at Fidalgo Pool, Anacortes, Washington. Spring (May or June) 1976. This film sat undeveloped for 37½ years. It's pretty amazing that it came out all!

San Francisco 1983

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco.

These photos are from a road-trip I took with my dad to California in the summer of 1983, just after my 16th birthday...
